Schering-Plough Corporation

Francesco Granata is group vice president and president, region I, for the Global Pharmaceutical Business of Schering-Plough Corporation's Europe-based regional organization (EUCAN). Region I encompasses Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK/Ireland, and the four Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

Granata joined Schering-Plough from Pfizer Inc., where he served as president of the northern Europe region and was responsible for the Scandinavian countries and Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Earlier in his tenure with Pfizer, he was president of the Africa and Middle East region. With an extensive background in the international pharmaceutical industry, Granata held positions at Dow Chemical, Glaxo and Dompe Biotec, before he joined Pharmacia and Upjohn as managing director and president, Italy, in 1999.

Granata holds a degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Pavia in Italy. After obtaining his degree, he spent several years in medical research at Societa Prodotti Antibiotici in Milan, where he served first as assistant to the medical director and later as medical manager. He currently serves on the International Section Executive Committee of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), which is the governing body of PhRMA.s International Section., as well as on the Heads of Europe Group of PhRMA and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries Associations (EFPIA).
