Gregory J. Szpunar, R.Ph., Ph.D., is senior vice president,
Pharmaceutical Sciences, Schering-Plough Research Institute.
Szpunar was named to his current position at Schering-Plough in October 2007.
In this capacity he leads formulation development, chemical and biological process development,
clinical supplies manufacture/logistics and the transfer of all processes to global operations.
Before joining Schering-Plough, Szpunar was Chief Scientific Officer and
senior vice president for R&D/Manufacturing at Biovail Corporation. Szpunar began his
pharmaceutical career at The Upjohn Company where he held leadership positions overseeing
pharmacokinetic and biopharmaceutic research. He was named vice president Worldwide Drug Metabolism
when the organization became Pharmacia & Upjohn, and later was senior vice president,
Product Development, for Pharmacia Corporation.
Szpunar earned a B.S. degree in pharmacy in 1980 from Wayne State University,
where he graduated with high distinction. In 1984, he received a Ph.D. degree in pharmaceutics
from the University of Michigan.
