FAQ's

Below is a list of questions that we are frequently asked about our funding guidelines.

1. How do I apply for a contribution?
Applicants should complete and submit an online application for a contribution.

2. Who is eligible to apply for a contribution?
Contributions are made only to nonprofit organizations certified as tax exempt under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and are classified as not a private foundation under Section 509 (a). Hospitals, educational institutions, and governmental institutions meeting these requirements are eligible to apply for contributions.

Who is not eligible to apply for a contribution?

  • Individuals;

  • For profit entities;

  • An organization seeking support that will benefit a third party;
  • Organizations not exempt under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and not eligible for tax-deductible support;

  • Religious organizations whose activities are primarily sectarian in purpose;

  • Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, age, creed, national or ethnic origin, or physical disability;

  • Political causes, candidates or campaigns

Please refer to our Charitable Contributions Guidelines and our Foundation Guidelines for more information.

3. Is there a deadline for submission?
No, Schering-Plough accepts and reviews online applications throughout the year.

4. What size contribution should I request?
The funds requested should be commensurate with the needs of the project or program requiring support.

5. Do you have any geographic restrictions?
While we do not have any geographic restrictions, funding preference is given to communities where Schering-Plough has major facilities. For a list of these areas, please click here.

6. Do you provide general operating support?
Yes.

7. When will I get a response to my online application?
Schering-Plough will make every effort to respond to applicants with a decision within 60 days.

8. Are other sources of funding required?
While a variety of funding sources is not essential, it is viewed by Schering-Plough as an indication of broad interest in the proposed program. Typically, Schering-Plough is not the sole supporter for programs or organizations.

9. Will Schering-Plough make multi-year awards?
Multi-year awards are the exception rather than the rule; most awards are made in a single payment.

10. Will Schering-Plough staff conduct site visits?
Because our funding is national in scope, it is not always feasible to conduct site visits. However, they are scheduled whenever possible.

11. Could I set up an appointment to discuss my project idea?
We require that you submit an online application as the first step to help us determine whether or not an appointment may be necessary.

12. How can I check on the status of my request?
Once an application has been filed, the applicant will be able to make an on-line request to check on the status.

Corporate Responsibility

Hundreds of Schering-Plough U.S. colleagues volunteered as part of the 2007 Community Projects Day. Colleagues rolled up their sleeves to paint rooms, renovate landscaping, entertain the elderly, deliver meals to the homebound, sort clothing and food donations, read to young children and many other tasks.
