Schering-Plough Corporation, in compliance with the Montreal Protocol and its mandate to remove ozone-depleting substances, the company will begin to transition from the chlorofluorocarbon (CFC)-containing albuterol asthma inhalers distributed by its Warrick Pharmaceuticals division. The company will continue to supply PROVENTIL® HFA (albuterol sulfate) Inhalation Aerosol, an albuterol inhaler that delivers the same medicine with an environmentally friendly propellant, hydrofluoroalkane (HFA), to meet its share of the short-acting inhaler market.
As Schering-Plough decreases the supply of CFC-containing inhalers, the company will increase the supply of PROVENTIL® HFA inhalers and expects to have the capacity to provide its share of the albuterol inhaler market. This reduction in CFC inhaler supply to the market will begin Nov. 1, 2006. Warrick Pharmaceuticals intends to cease manufacturing CFC inhalers in early 2007.
Asthma patients and caregivers should consult their health care provider with questions. Schering-Plough has established a special CFC to HFA transition toll free hotline at 1-877-HFA-7768. Or patients with questions can visit WWW.PROVENTILHFA.COM for further information. Additionally, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) has patient information about the transition at www.transitionnow.org.
