Schering-Plough has made a strong, long-term investment in technologies to facilitate drug discovery. Approaches using genomics and informatics help define and evaluate new targets for drug discovery and identify and characterize potential biomarkers of efficacy. High-throughput screening of our compound libraries is conducted in Kenilworth using robotics and microfluidics to increase throughput and decrease compound utilization. The proprietary ALIS (Automated Ligand Identification System) technology uses affinity selection of mass-encoded compound libraries for lead identification and optimization in our Cambridge laboratories.
We have made a significant investment in structural chemistry, including X-ray crystallography, mass spectrometry and NMR. When integrated with computer-assisted drug design, structural chemistry facilitates compound optimization for soluble protein targets.
